I really loved that Malinda Lo incorporated a fantasy aspect that added to the fairy tale style and was necessary to the story instead of distracted from it like many in the fantasy genre.

This was a really gorgeous retelling of Cinderella that eliminated a lot of cliches common in YA and kept you guessing the whole ride. The clocks’ hands are approaching midnight, and with so much at stake, Ash will have to choose carefully. When she meets the fairy, Sidhean and Kaisa, the King’s Huntress, she finds herself torn between the world of life and the mysterious world that hides in the shadows: death. Ash is becoming sick of her reality one in which her mother is dead and she’s left to deal with her cruel stepmother and stepsisters all alone. This is the story of Cinderella with a twist. Would recommend to: All ages (especially teens and adults).
